Koppermaandagprent Voices in Type

This year’s koppermaandagprent marks the third edition of a centuries-old printing tradition, which we have continued together with NPN Printing since 2023. The print underlines the importance of making, testing and research within graphic design.

For this edition, we invited American designers Tré Seals (Vocal Type Co.) and studio Civilization. Their contribution connects to our 25/26 theme, CHARACTERS, exploring how letterforms carry stories, identity and social change. Inspired by protest typography and the call for recognition of Surinamese writer and resistance fighter Anton de Kom, Tré Seals designed the custom typeface VTC WIJ, based on Dutch post-war protest banners.

As part of the wider project CHARACTERS: Voices in Type, the koppermaandagprent celebrates both the craft of printmaking and the power of graphic design as a tool for collective voice and social dialogue.
